Mehlville High School junior earns perfect scores on SAT, ACT math tests

Derek Weiss is a wiz with figures.

The Mehlville Senior High School junior recently demonstrated his mathematical prowess by earning perfect scores on the SAT and ACT math tests. In fact, he earned an overall score of 33 on the ACT college placement exam.

Posting an 800 on the SAT math test and a 36 on the ACT math test is not out of character for Weiss. He currently sits atop his class rankings at Mehlville with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average through his first five semesters.

Weiss, 16, continually challenges his academic skills.

He is enrolled in the highest level math courses available to him at Mehlville.

High academic achievement runs in the Weiss family. Derek’s oldest sister, Courtney, graduated from Mehlville in 2000 as valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. She is a senior at Dayton University majoring in English and English Literature. His other sister, Tara, graduated in the top 10 percent of her Mehlville class last year and is studying to be a high school mathematics teacher at Southeast Missouri State University.

Derek hopes to attend an out-of-state university after high school and major in engineering. His parents are Debbie and Larry Weiss of Concord.
