With a three-game winning streak and a Suburban West Conference co-champion-ship in their pocket, the girls’ basketball team at Mehlville Senior High ended the regular season with a strong finish.

The Panthers (19-5, 6-2 Suburban West) are in a five-way tie with Lindbergh, Lafayette, Parkway South and Marquette for the bragging rights of the Suburban West Conference.

“I honestly don’t think that it’s happened in the Suburban West,” Feibig told the Call, referring to a five-way tie for the conference championship.

Mehlville capped off the 2004-2005 regular season with an impressive 55-40 win on the road against Ladue. The Panthers grabbed a commanding 32-18 lead at halftime before pouring on 23 points in the second half for the non-conference win over the Rams.

“We’ve just been playing really well,” Feibig said. “We haven’t been out there taking foolish shots and it just seems that whatever gear these girls have to be at in order to win, they’re there.”

Michelle Senf led the Panther offensive attack with 17 points and 15 rebounds. The junior forward also had four steals, three assists and one blocked shot in the win over Ladue. She is averaging 14.5 points and 11 rebounds a game this season.

“That’s just the kind of month that she’s had,” Feibig said. “She’s becoming just an awesome rebounder for us.”

Alyse Gordon contributed 15 points, five steals, five assists, five rebounds and two blocked shots to the Panther victory. The sophomore center is averaging 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game this season.

Gordon had the hot hand last week with a 27-point effort against Webster Groves and 17 points against Rosati-Kain along with her 15 points against Ladue.

“There must be something in the water,” Feibig said. “That’s just a ton of points to have over one week of play.”

The Panthers are back in action Thursday after receiving a bye in the first round of the district tournament at Seckman. Mehlville will face the winner of the Lindbergh vs. Seckman game.

“I really haven’t seen Seckman, but I don’t see how they’ll beat Lindbergh,” Feibig said. “There’s a lot of people out there who don’t understand how valuable Amy (Hake) and Paula (Smith) are together. They just feed off each other and they’re so much better than they were in the beginning of the season.”

The consolation game of the district tournament tips off at 7 p.m.
