Mehlville deputy superintendent to retire

Mehlville Deputy Superintendent Jane Reed will retire at the end of the current school year, bringing to a close a nearly 30-year career in education.

The Board of Education voted last week to accept Reed’s retirement, effective June 30.

Reed began her duties with the Mehlville School District July 1, 2000, as north area superintendent. She was promoted to dep-uty superintendent July 1, 2003, and continued her responsibilities as north area su-perintendent.

Before joining the Mehlville School Dis-trict, Reed was with the School District of Washington for 22 years, where she served as deputy superintendent from 1996 to 2000, assistant superintendent from 1991 to 1996, director of instruction from 1986 to 1991 and assistant principal at Washing-ton High School from 1978 to 1986.

Reed began her career in education as a director/teacher in the Linn School District from 1976 to 1978.

She earned her doctorate degree in general administration from the University of Mis-souri-Columbia.

Reed also holds an education specialist degree from Mizzou, a master’s degree in sculpture and fiber art from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and art education from Culver-Stockton College in Canton. She also holds the following lifetime certificates: superintendent, secondary principal, elementary education K-8 and art education K-12.

Reed, 53, lives with her husband of 12 years, Doug, and their dog Sam in Washington.

She has been an active member of the community, having served on the Lemay Chamber of Commerce board.
