For the 25th year, the Mehlville School District transportation department has been honored for its bus maintenance by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The department received the “Exemplary School Bus Maintenance Award” in 2019. The award is given to bus maintenance programs that score 90 percent or above on fleet inspections. Mehlville’s fleet maintenance had a 96-percent inspection rate.
Director of Transportation Dan Gilman said that he also fitted the five new buses the district bought this year with Proposition R funds with safety features like backup cameras.
“We started those on the early childhood buses last year, so we expanded that this year to the bigger buses,” said Gilman.
“I appreciate you keeping everything running. You still haven’t steered me wrong,” board President Kevin Schartner said.
