Margaret Buerkle Middle School pupils did a little extra homework recently for a great cause, raising $2,089.47 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital when they participated in the middle school’s annual mathathon.
Math department teachers, under the direction of Susan Weedman, organized the fund-raiser in which 54 pupils in grades six through eight participated.
The top fund-raiser, eighth-grader Zabi Din, collected $260 and will receive a CD boom box and other prizes.
Brad Bolte, a sixth-grader, brought in the second highest amount, $111.
“The kids did a fabulous job … They truly wanted to help other kids,” Weedman stated in a news release.
