Math students capture first place at state

For the second time in two years, the Lutheran High School South Math Team earned first place at the recent Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics/Great Plains Math League State Competition.

The team of 10 students, led by seniors John Kalbfleisch, Erin Mackenzie, Adam Schaffer and Rob Timm, won the small school division with a sweepstakes score of 213 — the next competitor had 168.

The Lutheran High South team accepted 16 awards, plaques and ribbons at the conclusion of the competition.

Leading the way was John Kalbfleisch who won first place Target Round, 12th grade; first place overall Target Round; first place Sprint Round, 12th grade; and first place overall Sprint Round.

Other LHSS students competing were juniors Justin Dowell, Long Hoang and Adam Schuetz, and sophomores Matt Bryan, Beth Horvath and Caleb Scherer.
