Math students capture first at state

Math students capture first at state

The Lutheran High School South math team recently earned first place at the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics/Great Plains Math League State Competition. The team, comprised of juniors John Kalbfleisch and Rob Timm and freshman Matt Bryan, had the highest sweepstakes score in the competition — the overall score based on the five different contests performed. The team was led by Kalbfleisch’s all-time high sprint round score of 80, which earned him seventh place among all juniors at the event, and 19th overall. Timm’s score of 56 placed 25th among all juniors. A major factor adding to the state championship sweepstakes total was the LHSS team’s top score overall in the power question, surpassing all the small and large schools in the competition. Because of its accomplishment, the team qualified for the regional competition, which is set Friday, May 14, at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
