Local student to study in Spain this summer

Matthew Miles is one of several Truman State University students who will travel to Spain this summer on an eight-week study abroad program, one of several study abroad programs offered at Truman State University.

Miles will receive 12 credit hours for his work completed during the summer in Spain. During a six-week stay in Sala-manca, the students will live with a host family and study at one of the most prestigious language schools in Castile.

Beside daily classroom hours, they will participate in weekend excursions to Segovia, Avila, Astorga and Leon. After the course work is completed, they will have two full weeks of instructional tours through the different regions of Spain while visiting the cities of Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona, Cordova, Seville, Granada and Malaga.

As part of their cultural experience, they will also attend a bullfight, a Flamenco show, as well as a variety of music re-citals, fiestas region-ales and drama events. They will also visit a typical Anda-lusian village, many cathedrals, historical monuments, castles, art museums and participate in a variety of other cultural events.

The students spend a couple of days on a Mediterranean beach before they return to Kirksville to continue their work at Truman State University next fall.

Miles is a junior majoring in biology-pre-medicine. He is the son of Ronald and Janet Miles of Concord. At Truman, Miles is involved with Alpha Kappa Lambda, Marching Band and employed at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
