Aleksandra Knuepfer, a junior at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., is studying in Japan this semester as a member of Earlham’s Studies in Cross Cultural Education off-campus program.
Knuepfer is learning about Japan by participating in a Japanese community.
Studies in Cross Cultural Education program participants serve as foreign language — English — teaching assistants in local schools and live with host families.
The group takes field trips to sites around Morioka, and the program ends with a three- or four-day trip to one of Japan’s metropolitan regions, such as Tokyo, Hiroshima or Kyoto. Students also participate in activities planned by host families and Morioka citizens.
Knuepfer is the daughter of Margo and Mark Knuepfer of Sunset Hills.
