Lindbergh Student Council delegates do their job well at state convention

Eight Lindbergh High School Student Council delegates represented their school well at a recent state convention as they returned home with with top honors.

After weeks of intense preparation and several days of energetic campaigning, the eight Lindbergh High School Student Coun-cil delegates represented their school with the theme of “Get Fresh with Lindbergh!” at a recent state convention.

The Lindbergh students were attending the 2003 Missouri Association of Student Councils state convention in Liberty. The eight Lindbergh delegates included Mat-thew Brimer, Georgia Kastaris, Paul Nauert, Justin Riffle, Greg Schattgen, Robyn Swink, Joe Taylor, and Jeff Tienes. The official Student Council chairman for the campaign was Tienes.

Their efforts were rewarded when the Lindbergh High School Student Council was elected as the new president of all the student councils in the state. Because of this designation, Lindbergh will serve as host of the statewide MASC convention next year.

The convention involves an elaborate, three-day conference for nearly 1,000 student council delegates from more than 250 schools across Missouri. It includes discussion groups and idea forums, keynote speakers and entertainment, student housing, catered meals, leadership training and games, multimedia presentations, a formal banquet, and a dance party.

All this and more will be planned and completed for the 2004 MASC state convention with an extra Lindbergh twist, according to a district news release. Ready to rise to the challenge from a strong foundation of previous experience and leadership, Lindbergh anticipates an original and exciting state convention for 2004, the release stated.

Winning the presidency came down to an overall effort by the entire Student Coun-cil. The combination of designed posters, T-shirts and towels, coordinated giveaways, a skit and movie, and other various campaigning helped promote Lindbergh to the top.

Lindbergh Student Council Adviser Nancy Benson helped to supervise the campaign functions and organize the delegation.

Many Lindbergh parents also were in-volved in supplying services and donations to the Student Council to help with campaigning.

Lindbergh’s Student Council also was awarded the Missouri Association of Stu-dent Councils’ Gold Award, according to the release.

The council was recognized for having a comprehensive program in promoting student activities and student leadership.

Activities include school service, spirit, community service, student and teacher recognition and leadership training.

MASC Honor Council Chairman Karen Haak stated, “Student Councils and student leaders make a positive contribution to their schools and help to create a positive educational climate. We congratulate you for providing an atmosphere where your Students and Student Council can play a vital role in your school. We also wish to recognize the advisorship of Nancy Benson and Lisa Manson, who certainly played a large part in the acquisition of this award.”
