Lindbergh student achievement levels highest in district’s history, board told

Principals had reasons to glow as they shared Lindbergh Schools’ highest student achievement levels in district history with the Board of Education during the recent annual Learning Report meeting.

For 2009-2010, Lindbergh’s Missouri Assessment Program communication arts and math test scores ranked No. 1 in the state; elementary schools ranked in the state’s top 23; Sperreng Middle School was named No. 19 of 392 in Missouri; and Lindbergh High School held the No. 26 spot statewide among high schools.

In addition, the district earned its 10th Missouri Distinction in Performance Award — one of just a few in St. Louis County to earn the distinction every year since its inception.

Lindbergh also met every requirement in all 14 categories on Missouri’s Annual Progress Report for schools, and boasted the highest percentage of subgroups meeting federal Adequate Yearly Progress mandates. Subgroups classify students with varying cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and learning requirements.

“What our subgroup progress tells us is that the way we are teaching works for children from all backgrounds, allowing all of our students to achieve at even higher levels,” Nancy Rathjen, assistant superintendent of curriculum, stated in a district news release. “These impressive gains would not be possible without the dedication of principals, teachers and specialists who provide individualized instruction.”

Crestwood, Truman and Long elementary schools all ranked in the state’s top 10, and every elementary school continued to see improvements in their already high test scores, with increases in the number of pupils scoring proficient or advanced on state tests.

Sperreng Middle School and Lindbergh High School met the federal requirements for improvement in student achievement in all of their student subgroups.

Lindbergh High, a silver medal school in US News and World Report, graduated 11 students with the International Baccalaureate diploma in 2010. Last year, 831 IB and Advanced Placement tests were taken, resulting in 94 AP scholars and four National Merit Scholars.
