Lindbergh Schools honored 1,400 pupils in grades four through eight for their outstanding academic achievement during three Academic All-Star evenings in November.

Elementary and middle school pupils who score at the proficient or advanced level in all subject areas of the Missouri Assessment Program, or MAP, are eligible for the program, which is in its second year.

“It is an honor to be able to reward students for their hard work and dedication,” Superintendent Jim Simpson stated in a news release issued by the district. “Our MAP test scores are No. 1 in the state and these students are a shining example of that great achievement.”

Academic All-Stars receives funding and support from many community business sponsors, including: Eagle Bank and Trust Co. of Missouri, the Dave Bueker Keller-Williams Realty “Smooth Move” Team, St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Advance 360 Progressive Rehabilitation Center-Green Park, S&S Screen Graphics and Call Newspapers.

In addition, pupils received a prize package with T-shirts and donations from America’s Incredible Pizza Company, Crestwood Bowl, McDonald’s, Wehrenberg Theatres and the Gateway Grizzlies.

At the programs, Academic All-Stars were greeted by high school all-star athletes, including Lindbergh High freshman football players, cheerleaders and Flyerettes.

During the program, pupils and their families enjoyed entertainment by the LHS Drumline, Jazz Band, Madrigal Swingers and the Truman Elementary School Choir.

Besides individual awards, schools with the highest overall scores in the three subject areas tested — communication arts, math and science — win a traveling trophy to display year-round.

The trophies this year went to Crestwood Elementary School for communication arts, Long Elementary School for science and Truman Elementary School for math.
