The Missouri School Boards’ Association recently presented the Lindbergh Schools Board of Education with the 2016 Governance Team Award, recognizing the board’s commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

Lindbergh’s Board of Education is one only 15 school boards statewide to earn the recognition this year, according to a news release. There are 520 public school districts in Missouri.

MSBA’s Governance Team Award is presented based on outstanding commitment to ongoing professional development, to regional and statewide leadership and to active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools by the school board and superintendent.

Lindbergh Schools Superintendent Jim Simpson presented board members with their award Tuesday night — July 12 — during their monthly Board of Education meeting.

“We are very proud of each of you, and appreciate your continued commitment to learning and professionalism,” Simpson said stated in the release.

Board member Gary Ujka also achieved Master Certification in the MSBA Certified Board Member program.

The program established by MSBA helps local school board members develop the knowledge and skills they need to function as effective educational leaders in their communities. Board members who achieve master certification must accumulate at least 40 hours of training credit, read two books related to school board service, attend at least two MSBA meetings within the year and write a brief reflection paper that connects the subjects they have studied to the governance practices of the school district they serve.
