Lindbergh High band to play in Rose Parade

Lindbergh High School’s Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band has been selected to perform in the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., which will take place on New Year’s Day, according to a news release issued by the district.

This will be the Lindbergh band’s second trip to the parade. The Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band first received the honor in 2005.

Marching Band Director Bob Spiegelman made the surprise announcement Friday night to his band and a packed stadium of students, families and alumni during the Lindbergh High School homecoming football game, which the Flyers won 38-14 over Lafayette.

He broadcast a telephone call from the Tournament of Roses Parade president during the halftime show, announcing the band’s selection.

“It’s a thrill and great honor for our band members, band parents and staff to be selected to represent the Lindbergh community, the St. Louis area and the state of Missouri in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade,” Spiegelman stated in the release.

The 122nd Tournament of Roses Parade will feature spirited marching bands from throughout the nation, majestic floral floats and high-stepping equestrian units. The entire parade is broadcast on ABC, NBC, HGTV and the Travel Channel.
