When the Lindbergh High School girls’ basketball team faces Pacific in the first round of the Seckman Invitational Monday night, the Flyers plan to take care of some unfinished business.

Over the past five seasons, Lindbergh and Pacific have met eight times with Pa-cific winning five of those meetings.

In fact, the Flyers are suffering from a four-game losing streak to the Indians that dates back to Jan. 13, 2003, which was the last time Lindbergh defeated Pacific by a score of 64-47.

“We’ve had a lot of close games against them the past couple of years and always came up a little bit short,” Lindbergh head coach Bill Thoele told the Call. “They lost a lot of their main players so they’re a little down this year and we need to play hard and really take it to them.”

The Flyers (3-5, 0-1 Suburban West) are coming off a disappointing 69-61 loss at home to Mehlville last Friday evening.

Lindbergh fell behind 35-12 at halftime, but the Flyers proceeded to bomb the Panthers in the second half as they out-scored Mehlville 49-34 through the second and third quarters.

“It was like two different games,” Thoele said. “In the first half we just didn’t play with a lot of intensity. In the second half we made a game out of it.”

The Flyers were led by the hot scoring hand of senior center Meaghan Endicott, who recorded 18 points, six rebounds and two assists in the loss to Mehlville.

“Meaghan comes to play every day,” Thoele said. “She’s the one that got us go-ing in the second half.”

Lindbergh guard Courtney Kiel also scored in double figures for the Flyers as she racked up 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Thoele believes the senior guard has really poured it on lately for the Flyers.

“In the last two games, she’s gotten much better,” Thoele said. “She’s been playing quality minutes and has been focused and ready to play.”

Lindbergh guard Aimee Ubriaco also had a strong showing against Mehlville with a 12-point performance that included five rebounds.

The sophomore also had a team-leading eight assists and two steals.

“Aimee’s been struggling but in the second half, she really woke up,” Thoele said. “She needs a little more confidence and hopefully this game did it for her.”

The Flyers’ fourth player to score in double figures was senior guard Laura Ther-ina, who put together a 10-point performance that was complemented with four re-bounds.

“Laura comes out and plays very hard,” the Lindbergh High coach noted. “She’s probably our most consistent player be-sides Meaghan.”

The Flyers’ first-round game of the Seckman Invitational is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
