Lindbergh Flyers facing high expectations

By JEFF STAHLHUT

For the Call

After such a strong season in 2001, the Lindbergh High School football Flyers know expectations have been raised for the 2002 season.

Unfortunately, the Flyers’ early season schedule is not going to make it easy for them to get off to a flying start.

Not only do they open the season against one of the top area teams in Parkway West, but they then are faced with taking on two other very strong teams in Mehlville and Parkway Central the next two weeks.

“We have a tough first three games,” Flyers Head Coach Tom Beauchamp told the Call. “We will have to be up to the task.”

First things first, though, as Lindbergh must focus on West before getting concerned with any other teams.

“West is tough, strong and physical,” Beauchamp noted. “We have a good idea of what they can do from last year, but we will have to be ready for anything.”

The Flyers will have to be ready for a very solid team in the Longhorns, and Beauchamp is aware of the challenge in front of his squad.

“Some kids will have to step it up for us, but we feel good in a lot of areas. We will be very good on the offensive line. We’re working hard, but are still looking for some team leadership, he said”

The Flyers’ opening game against Parkway West kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Lindbergh High, 4900 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
