The Lindbergh Flyers baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision last week at rival Webster Groves, despite giving up just three hits.

“It was a great high-school baseball game,” Lindbergh head coach Darin Scott said. “I thought our guys did a nice job battling the entire game.”

Lindbergh (7-7) was powered by an impressive six-inning performance by starting pitcher Evan Henson. The senior hurler gave up just one earned run on three hits while racking up an impressive 11 strikeouts. The loss for Henson brought his record to 1-2 overall with a 4.36 ERA.

“It was really unfortunate that we were not able to get the win for him,” Scott said. “Only one of the three hits that he gave up actually left the infield. He did a great job battling throughout the game for us.”

Infielder Dan Murphy had the best day at the plate for the Flyers as he grabbed two hits on three appearances. The junior second and third baseman is currently batting .310 with a team-leading 10 walks.

“Dan had an impressive day,” Scott said. “He hit the ball hard against Webster Groves and has been doing a great job for us.”

The Flyers are back on the diamond this Thursday afternoon as they host Eureka. The Wildcats (7-4) are coming off a 1-1 draw delayed due to thunder after 11 innings of play April 11.

“Year in and out, Eureka is a tough team with quality pitching,” Scott said. “I think that it’s going to be a good, competitive matchup. They’re a team that usually has a solid defense and we’re going to have be on our game or else they’ll get to us.”

Lindbergh’s home game against Eureka is scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. start.
