Lindbergh earns perfect score on state’s new rating system

Lindbergh Schools earned a perfect score on the Missouri School Improvement Program 5’s Annual Performance Report, or APR.

With 140 points possible, Lindbergh earned all 140 points on five different standards set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, according to a district news release.

The new Missouri School Improvement Program, or MSIP, 5 standards include academic achievement, subgroup achievement, college and career readiness, attendance and graduation rate. This new scale includes more rigorous criteria that will differentiate school districts to a greater degree, the release stated.

Up until this year, a 14-point scale was used that allowed many St. Louis suburban districts to achieve a perfect score. Under the new system this year, just three St. Louis County districts scored 100 percent: Lindbergh, Kirkwood and Clayton.

While the report for this year is informational only, it gives districts an opportunity to see how they would rate under the new standards that will begin in 2015.

“The new MSIP 5 APR is a more rigorous, but accurate measure of a school district’s performance. The new standards look at many aspects of student achievement, far beyond simply comparing test scores. Our excellent ranking is a credit to the teachers and students who work hard and continue to meet the ever-increasing bar set by state and federal guidelines,” Nancy Rathjen, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, stated in the release.

The new rating system is expected to create greater distinctions between high-performing districts than the previous APR allowed, the release stated. Earlier this year, Lindbergh received its 12th Distinction in Performance Award.

“Lindbergh is a special place,” Lindbergh Superintendent stated in the release. “We focus on the individual needs of each student. Earning a perfect score on MSIP 5 APR would not be possible without the strength of the teaching staff and commitment to education from the Lindbergh community.”
