Lindbergh boys to face Lafayette Tuesday

Members of the Lindbergh High School boys’ basketball team might respond with a puzzled look when asked if they ever re-member beating Lafayette.

In fact, not one member of the Lindbergh boys’ basketball team has had the opportunity to experience the fruits of victory against the Lancers, who have defeated the Flyers by the combined score of 201-138 over the past three seasons.

“This is something that these guys have been looking forward to,” Lindbergh head coach Jason Wolfard told the Call. “(Car-tez) Parker is a phenomenal player and we’ll have to do something to slow them down.”

Parker, a 6-foot-2-inch guard for the Lan-cers, is averaging 12.6 points and 4.7 re-bounds a game this season. The senior also leads the Lancers in steals with 14 and is second in assists with 18 this season.

Griffey is a 6-foot-8-inch freshman forward who leads the Lancers in scoring with 16.6 points per game, rebounds with 9 per game and blocked shots with 36 this season.

“I think that if we can control Parker and (Tyler) Griffey, we’ll do all right,” Wolfard said.

Despite the matchup problems the Flyers may have against Lancers, Lindbergh (5-1, 1-0 Suburban West) is riding a four-game winning streak that includes a 58-47 win at Mehlville last Friday evening.

“I think that we’re starting to put it all together as a team,” Wolfard said. “We probably played our best basketball for the first half against Mehlville. But knowing Mehlville, they battled back and we had to hold them off at the end.”

Lindbergh’s Robby Meeh led all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double effort against Mehlville was the junior forward’s second in a row this season.

“In the last two games, Robby’s had double-double efforts,” Wolfard said. “He scored 18 points with 10 rebounds and kept (Richard) Williams to just eight points.”

Lindbergh is slated to take on Lafayette in the first round of the St. Louis Com-munity College-Meramec Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
