Died: Thursday, May 28, 2015

Leon James Crossley died May 28.

Mr. Crossley, an Oakville resident, retired from the Telecommunications Department at AmerenUE. He took care of both hardware and software in the heart of the utility company’s system in downtown St. Louis, and had high security clearance for the Callaway Nuclear Plant.

He received his electrical engineer degree from Washington University and his Class A Electrician License from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1.

Mr. Crossley retired from military service as a sergeant-major and received a 21-gun salute at his burial. He was a trained weather watcher for St. Louis County and a many-year member of the Citizens Police Academy.

Mr. Crossley served as a director of the Affton Historical Society, where he painted all the storyboards used for the children at Santa’s House and the Bunny Hutch events at the historic Oakland House.

He also volunteered fixing parade floats, parking cars, fixing furnaces, electrical problems, parking cars for weddings and even baking cookies in the kitchen.

He had a love of ice skating, painting, had a citizens band license and loved every dog he saw.

Mr. Crossley was married to his devoted wife, Carol (nee) Brundick, for 47 years.

He was the brother of Warren Pat Crossley; brother-in-law of Barbara Eckert, Nancy HerndonUlrich, Gary (Helen Libbie) Brundick and the late David Brundick. Mr. Crossley had no children but always kept a keen eye toward mentoring nieces and nephews. He was a sensitive, smart and quiet man; truly a renaissance man.

Visitation and services were at Kutis South County Chapel. Interment was in St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery in Pacific.
