‘Legends Classic’ to feature two 2000 State Championship soccer teams

Two 2000 State Championship high school soccer teams — 3A St. Mary’s and 4A Oakville — will meet in a “Legends Classic” matchup at noon Saturday, May 3, at Oakville Senior High School, 5557 Milburn Road.

The two legendary rivals will meet in a “bragging-rights” game endorsed by each school’s respective soccer program, according to organizers Matt Callison of Oakville High and Chris Reh of St. Mary’s. The event, inclusive to every player from each squad’s 2000 roster, will be a full-field, 11-versus-11 game with an officiating crew.

Dave Robben will coach the Oakville squad, assisted by Joe Sanchez. Players include Matt Boyer, Callison, Ryan Van Dillen, Justin Pasternak, Kyle Hopson, Mike Marchi, Eric Vineyard, Tim Wingenbach, Kevin Wingenbach, Matt Reigert, Kurtis Bromeier, Matt Jacobsmeyer, Jason Suda, Kyle Forthaus and Ryan Kramer.

Non-active players include Nick Werner, CD Longo, Scooter Knott, Kai Harris, Dan Schroeder, Ryan Fruend and Dominico Zanti.

Jeff Robben will coach the Dragons, along with Manager Tremere Grant. Players include Kevin McDaniel, Reh, Jay Stemlau, Kevin Simpson, Pete Cacciatore, Ryan Haman, Jason Vilmer, Corey Scheipeter, Tim Hanrahan, Mark Blankenship, John Ryan, Vince Vitale, Ryan Polete, Jeff Sackman, Alen Basic, Rob Brown, Andy Hannigan and Todd Robben.

Non-active players include Kevin Benson, Mike Simpson, Joe Gray, Joe Nelson, Jeremy Huelsing, John Scheumbauer, Ryan Hallerman and Manager Nick Peroutka.

Admission to the frame is free. Sponsors include Fortel’s Pizza Den of West County and State Farm agent Kevin Wingenbach.

Team members’ donations also are helping fund the game, with any additional money being donated to each school’s soccer program.
