The longstanding Mother’s Day tradition of the Laumeier Art Fair will be online for a second year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Laumeier Sculpture Park announced to members and donors last week.
Once again, the online Art Fair will be held over Mother’s Day weekend, from noon May 7 to noon May 10, online at laumeiersculpturepark.org/artfair.
The Art Fair in Sunset Hills usually attracts thousands to the St. Louis County park, but going online will “protect the health and safety of all,” the park said on its website. The park is hoping to hold events later this year that will allow people to gather on a smaller scale.
The annual Art Fair is a crucial source of funds for Laumeier, typically raising between 10-15 percent of the park’s annual operating budget. After a full year of lost income from the sculpture park’s usual sources, the online 2021 Art Fair is key for raising funds, the park said.
“By shopping the Online Art Fair, you will also be supporting local, regional and national artists who have also had a tough year financially sustaining their practices,” the park said. Seventy percent of sales will go directly to the artists, with 30 percent to Laumeier.
