Laumeier Art Fair to take place this weekend

Laumeier Sculpture Park, 12580 Rott Road, will open its popular Art Fair on Mother’s Day weekend.

The three-day event, in its 27th year, will feature 150 artists, music, entertainment, hands-on art activities for children, and a wide variety of food and drink.

The Art Fair will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, and continue through Sunday, May 11. Hours will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The 150 artists come from 34 states — from New York to Arizona and Wash-ington to Florida — and one all the way from Lisbon, Portugal. Twenty-nine artists are from Missouri, with 17 from the St. Louis area.

Artists will exhibit work for sale in 11 categories: ceramics, fiber/textiles, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography/digital, printmaking / drawing, sculpture and wood. A total of $11,000 in prizes will be awarded to those artists achieving excellence. Among the 150 artists are 13 returning award-winners.

The event will kick off Friday with Art of the Vine — a wine-tasting event for an additional $12 that will feature unlimited samples from area wineries. The Jeremiah Johnson Band will provide entertainment in the Wine Garden.

Art of the Ale, presented by Schlafly, will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday for an additional $10.

Free performances all weekend long include the Clark Academy of Irish Dance and Wack-A-Doo Saturday afternoon and the city of Sunset Hills Music Festival from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday featuring Keltic Reign, Acoustik Element and Trixie Delight.

Water Taxi and Elemental Shakedown are among the entertainment lineup for Sunday. Creation Location, a free hands-on art activity area for children, will be open during Art Fair hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Admission to the event costs $10 for ages 12 and up and $5 for children ages 6 to 11. Children under 6 and members will be admitted free. This is a rain or shine event. Pets and outside food or drink are not permitted in the park during Art Fair. Free parking is available in adjacent parking lots.
