Erich Kaletka, a student at Mehlville Senior High School, has been selected to attend the 2012 Missouri Scholars Acad-emy, a three-week residential program slated June 10 to June 30 on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The goals of the academy are to help gifted students achieve their full potential and motivate them to use their abilities to attain high standards of achievement, according to a news release.
Kaletka is one of only 330 students ac-cepted into the academy from the state of Missouri.
Participants are selected based on criteria that includes test scores; grade-point average; student essays; evidence of leadership, creativity and intellectual curiosity; problem-solving ability and initiative.
Academically, students represent the top one-half of 1 percent of the state’s sophomore class.
He takes all honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Kaletka is a class officer, a Student Council officer, member of German Club, Quiz Bowl, speech and debate and a varsity wrestler. He also volunteers for the Special Olympics and is on the steering committee.
He is the son of Eric and Missy Kaletka.
