Junior Olympic Skills Competition set at YMCA

Youngsters ages 8 to 13 can participate in the Junior Olympic Skills Competition from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the South County Family YMCA, 12736 Southfork Road.

This free grass-roots, youth-participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four athletic events — basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sports while promoting sportsmanship.

Participants may register the day of the event. Champions from the event will advance to one of the regional competitions with the goal of participating in the national finals.
