Johnny Mac Thunder booms in Nebraska

The Johnny Mac Thunder baseball team finished out the Battle of Omaha (Neb.) tournament last Saturday with a convincing 11-1 win over Owatonna, Minn.

Head coach Chris Ackman took his team to Omaha to not only face some of the region’s top teams, but also take in part of the College World Series.

“It was a good experience for us,” Ackman said. “There were 48 teams in the tournament.”

Johnny Mac starting pitcher Ethan Stenger threw a complete game of five innings as he gave up just one run on four hits. Stenger walked two batters and struck out seven for his fourth win of the year.

Three Johnny Mac players had three-hit performances at the plate as designated hitter Dave Williams racked up four runs batted in and three runs scored. Shortstop Nick Genetti’s three hits produced one run scored and three RBI. Center fielder Mike Young also scored three runs while recording one RBI.

Johnny Mac is back in action this coming Friday evening at 5:45 p.m. as they take on the Meramec Valley Falcons at Mehlville Senior High School.
