John E. Davis, 72, died Nov. 24 at deGreef Hospice House.
Mr. Davis was born in St. Louis, grew up in Affton, and at 19 served two years in the Marine Corps in the Korean War.
He obtained a bachelors degree in accounting from St. Louis University while working full time to support his family. Mr. Davis was a business administrator for the Lindbergh School District from 1965 to 1977. He then moved on to serve the Mehlville School District from 1977 to 1982 and the Normandy School District from 1982 to 1990, when he retired. His work-life mission was to maximize the use of school budgets in order to provide the highest quality education for children.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Davis (nee Weissenborn); son and daughter-in-law, Jon T. and Cindy Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Michael Murry; and four grandchildren. Mr. Davis was the only child of the late Erskine and Thelma Davis.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis were grateful to reach their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 21, which they celebrated together at de Greeff Hospice House.
Years ago Mr. Davis made arrangements to donate his body to St. Louis University medical School. The family was served by John L. Ziegenhein and Sons, south county.
