Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery plans annual Memorial Day services

Annual Memorial Day services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, with a procession to the Old Flag Circle where ceremonies will be conducted.

Carolyn C. Whittington, presiding judge of the St. Louis County Circuit Court, will be the guest speaker. The St. Louis Gateway Singers will provide musical selections.

On Sunday, May 27, the Boy Scouts of the Gravois Trail District of the St. Louis Area Council will conduct their 57th annual Memorial Day Good Turn Ceremony beginning at noon. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, unit leaders and their families will keep the tradition that began in 1950. This is done on Sunday so that at dawn on Memorial Day, every grave will have an American flag beside it.

The ceremony is open to the public. Parking for cemetery visitors will be at the Sylvan Springs Park in the lot in front of the main entrance to the cemetery and the Veterans Administration Medical Center near Beasley Elementary School. Buses will be used to transport to and from parking sites.

For additional information, call Ralph E. Church, cemetery administrator, at (314) 260-8720.
