JB Blast postponed, Stenger says

The JB Blast, scheduled for Tuesday, July 3, at Jefferson Barracks Park, has been postponed due to dry weather conditions and a lack of rainfall in the forecast, according to Sixth District County Councilman Steve Stenger.

“… It’s because of the heat and the dryness,” he said of the decision to postpone the event, which includes a fireworks display. “We’ve got significant dryness and I guess we haven’t had adequate rainfall …”

Because of the dry weather conditions, Lemay Fire Protection District officials would not issue a fireworks permit for the event, according to Stenger.

This year’s JB Blast was scheduled to feature the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Hot Brass at Veterans Memorial Amphitheater, followed by the fireworks display. Stenger said the event will be rescheduled, possibly for late summer or early fall.

“We’re going to do it a little later, maybe when it get’s a little cooler … It will probably be fall,” he said. “It will be out of the ordinary for that time of year … Probably more people will be in town, so maybe we’ll have a bigger crowd.

Besides Stenger, sponsors of St. Louis County’s annual patriotic celebration include County Executive Charlie Dooley, the South County Chamber of Commerce, the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation and the St. Louis County Police Department.
