Iraq war cooked up by Bush administration

To the editor:

I take issue with many of the inferences made by Mike Povich in his letter.

War with Iraq has been a long time coming. To wit: The war in Iraq was concocted and orchestrated by George Bush and his regime, not the citizens of the United States of America.

The men and women in our military were ordered to war by their Commander in Chief George Bush. They are not protesting the actions of a diabolical dictator. If the shedding of blood is the only price of freedom, then the people of the former Soviet Union, et al. should have been free long ago.

It is a dubious conclusion that ousting Iraq’s evil dictator will make the world a more stable place and bring harmony to all mankind. Despite its many flaws, we and the world do need the United Nations.

Mister Povich states, “If the previous president had done what he was put in office to do, we wouldn’t have to be in Iraq now.” I agree. Twelve years ago, had President Bush allowed our military to lead United Nations forces to Baghdad, U.S. military forces probably wouldn’t have to be there today.

May God bless and protect our military service people. May He smile upon them all and hold them safely in the palm of His hand. May His special blessing be upon the men and women of the U.S. Army’s famed 82nd Airborne Division, in which I served proudly.
