In Brief

Living Last Supper’ scheduled

Peace Lutheran Church, 737 Barracksview Road, will celebrate Maundy Thursday March 20 with its 16th annual presentation of “The Living Last Supper.”

This chancel drama depicts Leonardo da Vinci’s famous 1495-1498 painting, which shows Jesus partaking of the Passover meal with his 12 disciples just before his arrest and crucifixion.

During the meal, Jesus told them: “One of you will betray me.”

The painting shows the startled expression of the disciples as each wondered if Jesus meant him.

In this presentation of the “The Living Last Supper,” actors from the church will recreate the poses of the disciples in da Vinci’s masterpiece. One by one, each character will “come to life” to share his thoughts and to wonder “is it I?”

The Chancel Choir from the church adds to the drama with various musical selections and the service culminates with the celebration of Holy Communion.

Services are at 6 and 8 p.m. Tickets are necessary to guarantee seating in the Nave and may be obtained free by calling the church office at (314) 892-5610.

‘The Crucible’ to be performed

Mehlville High School students will present Arthur Miller’s classic “The Crucible” at 7 p.m. today, March 6, through Saturday, March 8, at the school, 3200 Lemay Ferry Road.

A matinee performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, March 7. Tickets cost $5 in advance or $6 at the door. Mehlville School District Senior Citizen Gold Card members will be admitted free.

“The Crucible” is the dramatic tale of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. However, the author is credited with creating a parable for the American “witch hunts” during the McCarthy era when citizens were accused of communism rather than devil worshiping.

In “The Crucible,” when several young girls fall ill, a self-proclaimed witch detector comes to town to find out if Satan is afflicting them. What follows is a series of scandals, secrets, lies and revenge.

Drama students featured in “The Crucible” are Michelle White (Betty Parris), Michael Wells (the Rev. Samuel Parris), Amanda Chumley (Tituba), Amanda Elsele (Abigail Williams), Megan Gill (Susanna Wallcott), Andrea Jincks (Mrs. Ann Putnam), Davorin Kristo (Thomas Putnam), Angela Scorfina (Mercy Lewis), Mallory Krueger (Mary Warren), Damian Hurley (John Proctor), Roze Brooks (Rebecca Nurse), Jordan Vantrease (Giles Corey), Rachel Denoyer (Martha Corey), Matt Mauer (Reverend Hale), Brianne Meyer (Elizabeth Proctor), Kyle Novak (Willard), Angelo Jones (Cheever), Billy Thacker (Judge Hawthorne), Luke Seckington (Deputy Gov.
