IB diploma program prepares seniors for success

IB diploma program prepares seniors for success

Twenty-one Lindbergh High School seniors are pursuing the prestigious International Baccalaureate, or IB, diploma in 2013-2014, which they will receive upon graduation in May. Students in the IB program must successfully complete six exams, a course in Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word extended essay and a self-designed program of 150 creative, action and service hours. LHS is currently one of the only schools in the St. Louis area to offer IB courses, along with the more common Advanced Placement options. Irv Mueller, district honors coordinator, says an IB diploma helps distinguish students in the college admissions process and prepares them for a successful college experience. This year’s candidates, front row, from left, are: Ruby Parks, Kylie Jensen, Megan Duvall, Aarthi Bala and Colleen Yoder. Middle row, from left, are: Theory of Knowledge teacher Matthew Cooper, Rick Lewis, Brian Barrett, Jacob Pavelka, Aaron Barnes, Ben LeDeaux, Josh Luthy, Kieran Bradford and Sam Stephens. Back row, from left, are: Ryan Firth, Shravan Dommaraju, Zach Hamel, Claire Dang, Joy Mersmann, Zoe Hall, Jack Korenak and Laura Rottman.
