Hughes accepts West Point appointment

John M. Hughes has been accepted for admission into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Hughes, a senior at Oakville Senior High School, will report on June 28 at West Point.

During his four years at Oakville, he was on the varsity tennis team, played junior varsity and varsity football, was in the Spanish Club, and went to state competitions with Youth in Government and the Science Olympiad team. He achieved the honor roll through all semesters and was also a tutor in the A+ program.

Hughes has been a member of the Army Reserves since March 2003 and recently was promoted to private first class. During the summer between his junior and senior year, he attended Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C., where he earned the honor of carrying the platoon banner on Parents’ Day and during graduation ceremonies.

Hughes is the son of Mike and Kathy Hughes and the brother of Steve Hughes.

He is the grandson of Barbara Mueller of St. Louis and Patrick and Ruth Hughes of Livingston, Texas.
