Historical society to observe Memorial Day

The Sappington-Concord Historical Society will sponsor its annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 28, at Memorial Park, the small grassy area bordered by Gravois, Denny and Sappington Roads, opposite Johnny’s Market.

The Lindbergh High School Band will kick off the celebration with several rousing selections at 10 a.m. Chairman Carl Spinner has arranged to have Chief War-rant Officer 4 Randy Ottinger serve as master of ceremonies. He is a veteran helicopter pilot who served in Iraq.

The keynote speaker will be Forrest Stroup, a World War II veteran who fought in North Africa and then Sicily under Gen. George Patton.

Spectators who wish to sit should bring their own chairs. Johnny’s Market will allow parking on its rear lot. Parking also will be available on the lot adjacent to Johnny’s Market.

A reception that is open to the public will follow the ceremony in the auditorium of St. Lucas Church, 11735 Denny Road. Military displays will be featured.
