Grantwood Village residents recently celebrated National Arbor Day 2016 with the dedication of a black gum tree. The young tree was planted in a small park in the Forest Haven Subdivision. Florence Stalley, a representative of the village’s Tree Board, said the board will be working with the village’s Board of Trustees, professional arborists, the Missouri Department of Conservation and other organizations to make a comprehensive assessment of trees on public property in the village. Then the team will set forth a plan for replenishment of numerous trees lost in recent years due to weather and disease. The village is in the process of earning the Tree City USA designation and plans to make the Arbor Day celebration an annual event.
