Grand opening planned for new Civil War exhibit

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, the county Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of Jefferson Barracks will sponsor a grand opening for a new exhibit, “The Civil War in Missouri.”

The exhibit examines the events that took place in Missouri, the state with the third most battles and skirmishes during the Civil War. Exhibit panels explore such battles as Belmont, Island No. 10, Wilson’s Creek and Price’s Raid.

Uniforms, equipment and other artifacts help bring to life the common soldier in the field, camp and during battle.

The grand opening will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, in the Old Ordnance Room at Jefferson Bar-racks Historic Park.

Admission to the exhibit and grand opening is free. For more information, call Marc Kollbaum at (314) 544-6224
