Ruth and Bob Carr celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a recent reception with family and friends.

Special guests included Carr’s mother, Mona VanHook; maid of honor, Helen Hounsom Stein; and bridesmaid Marianne Carr Petri.

Robert Ray Carr and the former Ruth Ann Hounsom met in 1951 while en-rolled in Junior Achievement during their high school years and graduated from Webster Groves High School and Brentwood High School, respectively.

They were married Dec. 26, 1955, at Brentwood Congregational Church shortly before he went to Korea with the U.S. Army’s 304th Signal Battalion.

He retired in 1998 after 39 years with the St. Louis County Water Co. Mrs. Carr retired in 1997 after 42 years with Schnucks Markets Inc. The couple live in Crestwood where they have resided since 1959.

Mr. and Mrs. Carr are the parents of three children: Gary Carr, Donna Clay-ton and Martin Carr.

They have six grandchildren.
