Goal of improving Green Park newsletter nothing more than election rhetoric

One of the election promises of most newly elected Green Park officials over the past few years has been the assurance that they will strive for better communication between elected officials and the community.

Improvement of the community newsletter — Green Park News — most agreed, was a priority in achieving this goal. But like most election rhetoric, that expression of concern was only hyperbole.

People’s names are important to them, so it is “good communication sense” to use a person’s name when communicating with them, to gain their attention and let them know you’re interested in them. That truism in mind, Green Park residents need look no further than the address on their Green Park News to realize that their city officials care not when it comes to communicating with them.

I’ve been a resident property owner in Green Park for six years, most of my neighbors many more years than I. Yet our woefully infrequent newsletters still come addressed to “RESIDENT.”

It’s but one of the many sad footnotes to the history of a community that could be a wonderful place to live, yet is known to its residents as Clown City because city officials consciously choose to perform more like circus clowns than responsible elected officials.
