Get mail in a move; address changes made easy

Some may say it’s the American pastime: moving.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, roughly 14 percent of the population moves each year.

As a result, the U.S. Postal Service pro-cesses about 45 million individual and family address changes annually.

To meet the needs of the relocating public, the Postal Service now has more quick and convenient ways than ever before to have your mail forwarded to your new address.

While completing the official Postal Service Change of Address Order found in the Mover’s Guide at the post office always will be an option, Internet change of address is growing by leaps and bounds. It allows individuals and businesses to fill out the necessary forms online at www.usps.com. To date, surveys show that 6 million Americans have used the online service and have been very satisfied.

According to a 2004 survey, 81 percent said they would use it for future moves, and 93 percent said they would even recommend it to a friend.

Now the Postal Service has yet another option available: telephone change of address. To improve access to services for those who may have packed up their personal computer, relocating individuals and businesses need only dial 1-800 ASK USPS — (800) 275-8777. Once they select the change of address option, they will be prompted through the system and always have the option of speaking with a friendly customer service agent. When the process is completed, the family/individual/business will be notified via the standard change-of-address confirmation process.

So now, no matter what your schedule, preference or how often you move, you can change your address in a quick, easy and convenient manner.
