George L. Spanel Sr., 86, died July 18.
Mr. Spanel, of Oakville, was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 1. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II as a USS Houston volunteer and served as an aviation electricians mate 3rd Class in North Africa.
Mr. Spanel was an avid golfer and skilled athlete who enjoyed the competition of any game. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Spanel (Bob Bailey); sons and daughters-in-law, George and Susan Spanel Jr. and Robert and Lisa Spanel; brother, Albert Spanel; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Spanel was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rita Spanel; sisters, Sadie Johnson and Millie Smith; and brother, Fred Spanel.
Services were at St. Margaret Mary Ala-coque Catholic Church. Visitation was at Kutis South County Chapel. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
