The career and technical skills of four Mehlville School District students have earned them a gold medal in the Missouri state SkillsUSA competition, qualifying them for a trip to the organization’s national championships in June.
Four additional district students earned silver and bronze medals at the state competition, while 13 students representing Mehlville and Oakville high schools medaled at the East District championships.
As state champions, MHS seniors Jesse Belk, Drew Dittmann, Bradley Krafft and Lauren Kroenung each earned a $2,000 scholarship to attend Linn Technical College, the host for this year’s Missouri state competition. Their gold medals also earned these four students the opportunity to compete in their respective divisions during SkillsUSA’s 47th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference taking place from June 19-24 in Kansas City, Mo.
“Brad, Lauren, Drew, and Jesse are phenomenal students who work diligently to succeed in all they do. They are incredible role models to all students at MHS and we are so proud of their accomplishment. These four students are most deserving of this gold medal and will surely impress everyone at the national level in June,” MHS senior counselor Lynn Shambro stated in a district news release.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
