Four file for Crestwood mayoral election

Four candidates have filed for a special election to fill the Crestwood mayoral post.

Filing for the Aug. 3 special election to fill the remainder of former Crestwood Mayor Jim Robertson’s term were Roy R. Robinson, 9165 Cordoba Lane; Ward 4 Alderman Thomas E. Fagan, 8715 Red Oak Drive; Ward 1 Alderman Richard LaBore, 1421 Woodhue Drive; and Peter John Mead, 8907 Harwich Drive.

Robertson announced his resignation near the end of the Jan. 27 Board of Aldermen meeting. An attorney who was elected mayor in April 2002, Robertson said he was resigning to focus on family, medical and personal matters that he had been unable to give the attention they needed.

Given how the responsibilities of the mayoral post essentially had become a second full-time job, Robertson “reluctantly” concluded he could not focus on those family, medical and personal matters and give his mayoral duties the attention they required.

Whoever is elected in August will serve until April when Robertson’s mayoral term would have concluded. An election for mayor then will take place in April and whoever is elected will serve a three-year term.
