Four-day work week set for summer by Mehlville

In its continuing efforts to reduce expenses, Mehlville School District employees will work longer days and shorter weeks during the summer months, a news release stated.

From June 21 through Aug. 5, all district offices, with the exception of the Facilities Department, will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. District offices will be closed Fridays.

However, Central Office administrators will remain on call 24 hours a day and will leave a rotating schedule for emergency contact with facilities personnel. Due to maintenance needs and Proposition P projects, Facilities Department employees will continue to work their regular schedule.

“The Business Office has calculated that by working this type of summer schedule, the district could save approximately $20,000 in utilities expenses,” A.D. McClain, assistant superintendent for human resources, stated in the news release.

District offices will be closed Monday, July 5, for the Independence Day holiday and Friday, July 9, for utilities savings.

Employees will work Tuesday through Thursday that week.

Also, employees taking a vacation day during any of the 10-hour workdays will be charged for 1.25 vacation days instead of one vacation day.
