Forum to address teen heroin, painkiller abuse

An informational forum about confronting teen heroin and painkiller use will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Oakville High School, 5557 Milburn Road.

The St. Louis area currently is experiencing an extremely dangerous epidemic of heroin and prescription painkiller use by teens, according to a news release from county police. This forum is intended to provide helpful and useful information to the community in order to proactively confront this situation and help stop the epidemic before it gets any worse, the release stated.

The free event will feature a presentation and panel discussion, followed by a period for questions. Topics and speakers will include:

• Education: Dan Duncan, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse-St. Louis Area.

• Impact: A family member who has lost a loved one to heroin.

• Enforcement: Lt. Chuck Boschert of the county Police Department.

• Treatment: Kate Tansey, St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund.
