Forty Vietnam veterans will bring ‘History Alive’ during visit to Lindbergh High School

More than 40 Vietnam Veterans will visit Lindbergh High School Friday, May 4, to share their stories with students as part of the school’s third annual “History Alive” program.

Throughout the day, veterans will meet with small groups of history students in the auditorium lobby, sharing their personal experiences and the life lessons they learned while serving in the American armed forces.

“The goal of the History Alive program is to connect various generations and promote meaningful conversations through a series of interviews between the students of today and America’s heroes,” LHS history teacher Brad Durnell stated in a district news release. “History is more than what takes place in a textbook or a classroom or on the History channel. History is walking around us on a daily basis, and we are a part of it as well. The History Alive program is about breathing life back into our past and getting back to learning from our elders.”

History Alive’s other programs this spring have included World War II and Korean veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans will visit on May 11 for the program’s final installment. Veterans who are interested in participating in future sessions can contact Durnell at bdurnell@lindberghschools.ws.
