Former Mehlville school board member urges voters to re-elect Hilmer

To the editor:

Because of the current attempt to wrest control of the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors away from the citizens, some brief facts are in order.

Prior to Aaron Hilmer and Bonnie Stegman being elected to the fire district Board of Directors in 2005, the union-controlled board regularly sought higher tax rates, while threatening life-or-death consequences. During their campaign, Aaron and Bonnie endured harassment and intimidation, all while campaigning to return control of the district to the taxpayers.

Since their victory in that election, the fire district board, with Hilmer as president, has purchased new fire trucks and ambulances, added advanced life support services to all district apparatus and built four new firehouses, all without asking for a tax-rate increase or incurring debt.

In fact, the current board has rolled back the artificially inflated tax rate — something never before done in the state of Missouri — saving the average homeowner thousands of dollars.

These achievements would not have been possible without the leadership of Aaron Hilmer.

Meanwhile, the union bosses have offered us a candidate making unfounded accusations about unhappy employees.

That candidate, Jane Kolb, claims as her qualification for the job, marriage to a firefighter from a union-controlled fire district.

On April 4, please vote for Aaron Hilmer for the Mehlville Fire District Board of Directors. He has proven time and again that he serves to represent the citizens and taxpayers of the fire district.
