Karen E. Callanan of south county re-ceived a juris doctorate degree from St. Louis University during its annual commencement this spring.

After spending a year as a full-time reporter and associate editor at Call News-papers, Callanan continued to work for the Call part time during law school.

At SLU, she served as executive editor of the St. Louis University Law Journal. She also worked as a student mentor as well as a legal research and writing class teaching assistant for students.

In addition, Callanan participated in Moot Court and Trial Advocacy. She re-cently received academic excellence in Electronic Media Law.

During her summers, she interned in the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney’s Office, the City Coun-selor’s Office and the St. Louis law firm of Greensfelder, Hem-ker & Gale.

Callanan has accepted an associate attorney position with Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale after she takes the Missouri Bar Exam in July.

She is a 2001 graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville and a 1997 graduate of Cor Jesu Academy.
