The first Classic Car Cruise on Route 66 in Crestwood and Sunset Hills will rev up from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14.
The event is being presented in collaboration with the Sunset Hills Historical Society, the cities of Crestwood and Sunset Hills and the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce, according to a news release.
“This is a great opportunity for the family to experience firsthand the car cruise of the ’50s and ’60s,” Nick Dragan, event co-chair, stated in the release. “Not to mention everyone can participate in fun, games, music and good food and drink along the famous Route 66.”
This rain-or-shine event will begin on Old Route 66 — Watson Road — at Geyer Road and travel east to Crestwood Court, Watson and Sappington roads. Food and beverage vendors and family friendly activities will be positioned all along the way on Watson Road — the original Route 66.
Crestwood Court, the former Crestwood Plaza Shopping Center on Watson Road at Sappington, will serve as a backdrop for the main bandstand.
From 11 a.m. to noon, the Mark Connoly Band will perform, with more local acts onstage from noon to 3 p.m. The Excelerators Band will perform from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and the Bob Kuban Band will play from 7 to 9 p.m.
Along the route, various classic car clubs will exhibit their automobiles, as well as participate in the classic car contest.
Judging will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at Crestwood Court.
