A Certificate of Achievement for Ex-cellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Mehlville Fire Protection District for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year that ended Dec. 31, 2004.

This award is presented by the Gov-ernment Finance Officers Associa-tion of the United States and Canada to government units and public em-ployee retirement systems whose comprehensive annual financial re-ports, or CAFRs, achieve the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting, according to a district news release.

The attainment of this award represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, the release stated, noting the Mehl-ville Fire Protection District has been awarded this Certificate of Achieve-ment for the last nine years and is the only fire protection district in the state to receive this award. The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
