Fire district honored for financial reporting

A Certificate of Achievement for Excel-lence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Mehlville Fire Protection District for its comprehensive annual fi-nancial report for the fiscal year that ended December 31, 2003, according to a news release.

This award is presented by the Govern-ment Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada to government units and public employee retirement systems whose comprehensive annual financial reports, or CAFRs, achieve the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting.

The attainment of this award represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, the news re-lease stated.

The Mehlville Fire Protection District has been awarded this Certificate of Achieve-ment for the last eight years and is the only fire protection district in the state of Mis-souri to receive this award.

The Mehlville Fire Protection District’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR, the release stated.
